"I went to the Sonoma County Relocation website, where I entered
minimal information about our needs, and received a call within mere
hours. The voice on the other end of the line was bright and cheery
and willing to help....We are now in our "starter house" which
is a condo."

A Brief History of Cloverdale
Cloverdale was founded in 1859 by James Abram Kleiser and is one of
the fastest growing cities in Sonoma County. This former lumber town
is farthest north in the county, bordering the Mendocino County line.
Until the 1990s, Highway 101 tapered to a narrow country road that went
through downtown Cloverdale.
To offset a potential loss of business for local merchants after revamping
the freeway, a downtown plaza with tree-lined streets was created to
revitalize the area. The plaza is within walking distance for many Cloverdale
residents and provides a friendly small-town environment with big city
amenities. With its relatively inexpensive housing, Cloverdale attracts
both retirees and young families. It is the home of Clover Springs, a
retirement community recently built by Del Webb for residents 55 and
older.
The Wine Country is to the south, east and west. Cloverdale recently
built a new Wine and Visitor Center and has a 70-acre Regional Park with
Russian River frontage. Lake Sonoma to the west offers additional water
recreation such as boating, fishing and water skiing.
Cloverdale is becoming a popular tourist destination. There is a host
of annual events including the Olde Time Fiddle Contest followed by the
Cloverdale Citrus Fair, Black Bart Festival, Street Celebration and Classic
Car and Motorcycle Show. Cloverdale has slightly warmer temperatures
than other Sonoma County cities. It is surrounded by mountains and located
in the north end of the Alexander Valley Vineyards.
Cloverdale is the last city traveling north on Highway 101 and is located
17 miles north of Santa Rosa, 86 miles north of San Francisco and approximately
25 miles east of the Pacific Ocean. Location of other cities and communities
can be found on the Map of Sonoma
County.
