Northern Sonoma County Real Estate and Information

Northern Sonoma County consists of Cloverdale, Geyserville and Healdsburg. It has several famous wine appellations including Alexander Valley, Dry Creek Valley and the Chalk Hill area. Boating, water skiing and fishing and are popular at Lake Sonoma which is also home to the Don Clausen fish hatchery. Cloverdale is home to the Citrus Festival.

An appellation is a name of a region in which grapes for production are grown. Historically, the world's first vineyard classification system was introduced by the Hungarians in Tokaj-Hegyalja, Hungary in 1730. The world's second oldest appellation control was introduced in Portugal in 1756. The first Sonoma County Appellation was formed in 1982 and it was called the Sonoma Valley Appellation. Currently, there are 12 appellations in Sonoma County.
