"On behalf of my family, I want to thank you for your help in the marketing of our properties. You were highly recommend and it was obxious, by the amount of personal clients you brought to the table, that you live up to your reputation. Your mild manner and attention to detail certainly helped."

A Brief History of Graton

One of California's first schools was established in Graton. In its early days, this tiny West Sonoma County town consisted mainly of a cannery and horse stables. Two streets are named for the stable owners Brush and Gray.

The electric railroads of Santa Rosa and Petaluma connected to Graton, allowing agricultural products to be shipped throughout California in addition to providing passenger service. The fair for passengers was 10 cents to Sebastopol and 25 cents to Santa Rosa with the passenger trains running on a hourly basis and freight trains would run on a daily basis. There was an Indian trail that ran parallel to Graton Road on the north side. This was used for trips to Bodega Bay for food. Many Indian artifacts were found in the Graton area.

Graton has changed over the years and the downtown area has been rehabilitated. Several fine restaurants and shops line the downtown area premium wineries and vineyards. Nearly 70 percent of Graton residents moved into their homes in the last decade, and were attracted by its beauty of this quiet bedroom community.

Recently a bike trail was completed over the old railroad and extends towards Forestville to the north and Sebastopol to the south. Graton is also home the Annual Flower Show and Graton Days.

Graton is 3 miles north of Sebastopol on Highway 116 and west on Graton Road for 1 mile. Location of other cities and communities can be found on the Map of Sonoma County.
